What is EE Win Percentage?

Close-up screenshot of the Win Percentage metric within EquinEdge

Our Win Percentage Metric represents the probability that a specific horse will win a particular race. This percentage is calculated using comprehensive data from the horse's past races and workouts, combined with information about the jockey, trainer, owner, breeder, and the horse's relatives' past performances.

A higher win percentage means a greater likelihood of winning. For example, a horse with a 30% win percentage is expected to win 30 out of 100 similar races. When comparing two horses, the one with the higher win percentage is generally more likely to win.

Using Win Percentages Effectively:

  1. Cumulative Probability: If you have multiple horses in a race, you can sum their win percentages to gauge your overall chance of winning. For instance, if Horse A has a 33% win percentage, Horse B has 17%, and Horse C has 15%, your combined chance of one of your horses winning the race is 65%. Using this approach can help you understand the overall strength of your selections in a given race.
  2. Making Decisions: While our win percentage is a powerful metric, it's essential to consider other factors too. Horses with similar win percentages may require further analysis using additional data provided by EquinEdge, such as Past Performances, Pace, Genetic Strength Rating (GsR) and Strength of Race (SoR).
  3. Actual Performance Statistics: Horses with the highest Win Percentage have won 32.9% of the time. One of our top two Win Percentage horses have won 52.7% of the time.
  4. Understanding Probabilities: Its important to remember that a Win Percentage is a probability, not a guarantee. A horse with a 30% Win Percentage still has a 70% chance of not winning. Use this Metric to make informed decisions rather than expecting certain outcomes.
  5. Context Matters: Use win percentages in conjunction with other EquinEdge tools for the best results. This metric provides solid, reliable information, but effective race handicapping requires a comprehensive approach.

EquinEdge's win percentage metric is a valuable tool, providing accurate, data-driven insights to help you make informed decisions without the need to sell or exaggerate its capabilities.
